I miss drinking.

It has been 5 months since my last period and 5 months since my last drink of alcohol. It hasn’t been that hard avoiding alcohol and I really enjoy never having to deal with being hungover. I also have enjoyed watching people act like fools when they’re drunk and driving everyone home safely. It’s certainly eye-opening as well though knowing that I used to be that annoying girl who wouldn’t shut up at the party. But, even so, there have been a handful of days, where I just want a drink. My husband had the day off today so we met up for lunch. It was 60 degrees outside and there was a table of young guys drinking a bucket of beers. For some reason, I just really wanted to have a beer too. I call it “Day Drinking” and there are only a handful of days throughout the year where I partake in that activity and today I really wanted to have a beer, skip work and hang out at the park. I also really miss sharing a bottle of wine with my husband at a nice restaurant or at home on a friday night while staying in.

After looking at the bucket of beers, I just took a big gulp of my water and let out a sigh. There will be plenty of years ahead of me to do some Day Drinking, I’ll just have to wait. But, you better believe I’ll be having an O’Douls in a frosty mug tonight just to feel like I’m drinking. That usually does the trick until the next time…

More Nursery Wall Designs

I’ve recently started to come across some very cool wall decal designs. This site has some seriously cool sophisticated designs. Check out the Collections Catalogs. I thought this decal would be great inspiration for a “world traveler” themed room.

Here is another site with decals. These aren’t as sophisticated but are fun for a kids room. I really like the pacman ones!  I also came across this helpful article about art in kid’s rooms. It had some good points about putting diversity into the room design so that your child can be exposed to many things before you know what they will respond to as well as putting things that can be educational too. It did say to seize the moment to have a say in the room design because before you know it, the kid will take over the design and make it their own. I certainly agree with that.  As far as choosing the color of the nursery, this article was very helpful. Who knew that Yellow is the most difficult color to see and has been shown to make babies cry more?

More gas than Exxon

I have had so much gas lately. I can feel it from the time it leaves my stomach to the time is exits my body. Sometimes it is uncomfortable and other times its just annoying. I think I went to bathroom yesterday to relieve my gas about 15 times. In a quick “excessive gas and pregnancy” google search, I realized that it is normal. The hormones cause your intestines to digest food slower and that causes a gas build-up. Some tips offered were to avoid broccoli, beans, cauliflower and fruit. I can do all of them but fruit. I probably have 4 servings of fruit a day.  The other recommendation was to exercise more because that speeds up your digestion. I worked out for about an hour yesterday and I’m already feeling a lot better today. The gas was getting pretty out of hand so I guess I’ll just have to keep working out. Darn!

On a side note, I have been noticing that my legs seem weaker lately on my walks. I can’t speed up hills like I used to. I have been walking the same amount as I was a few months ago and I’ve even added some toning exercises to my legs (squats and lunges to help with birth).  I hadn’t been able to figure out what was going on until today.  My ah-ha moment came when I realized that I’m carrying a lot more weight than I am used to. It’s like I’m wearing a weighted vest. Duh!  No wonder my legs get sore on long uphill walks and I get out of breath faster.

Nursery Inspiration

My husband and I have been discussing what to do with the nursery. Do we pick a theme? Do we keep it fun but classy like a potterbarn kids room   4a017519-4e46-4eb7-85f9-7692dc4c341f_player.jpg  or do we totally go crazy and make the room super fun kid-style? Since the rest of our house is pretty classy, we’ve decided to go crazy. The latest theme I have come up with is “underwater” where the whole room would feel like you were a fish or some other sea creature. Not so much “Little Mermaid” but more “Atlantis.”  I haven’t totally convinced my husband of this yet but we’re still brainstorming. Here are some pictures that have inspired me…

These underwater murals have the bright colors that I want but I think we will take a more graphic art approach, rather than realistic.

I love all of these for the background on the walls. Some are going to be easier to paint than others…

And here are just some other rooms that had elements I liked..

Does anyone else have any room theme suggestions?

IT’S A BOY!!!

“….and right there is the little turd….You’re having a boy!” And with that quote from our Ultrasound technician, we were having a son. The ultrasound was amazing! I invited my mother, mother-in-law and husband. I think I was the most calm of the group and my husband couldn’t stop jumping up and down!  She checked and measured everything with success and everything looked normal. The blood flow was good, 4 heart chambers, 2 brain hemispheres, no tail or fins! : )

Here are some of the scans with descriptions because they are hard to decipher at first..

1. Here is a profile shot of the baby kissing the placenta, although it looks like he’s sucking a boob.

2. Here is a shot of the baby’s right leg and foot.

Maternity shopping spree, round 2.

I went shopping for the second round of maternity clothes this weekend. I have found a maternity re-sale shop that I like so I started and finished there. I just can’t justify replacing my entire wardrobe within 5 months for full price. I think I was pretty successful and brought home a bag full of clothes to hang in my practically empty closet. (I moved another 2 bins full of pre-pregnancy clothes to the basement.) The sad part is trying everything on while thinking to yourself, “this should still fit..” and then it doesn’t. The clothes I got this time around are a little baggy because I wanted to have room to grow into them, so they make me look a little more pregnant than I am.  But, as I told my husband, “it’s time to start showing people that I’m pregnant and not just pudgy.”  Some days I’ll wear a baggy fleece or sweatshirt and try to hide my pregnant belly but I think those days will begin to dwindle. I’m not ashamed to be pregnant or anything, I think I’m just avoiding the dreaded moment when everyone thinks it’s okay to run up to you and touch your stomach. What is that all about anyway? Do they want proof that it’s really your stomach and not a pillow? Is having a baby belly just so freakish that people have to touch? It gets really weird when someone that you’re not even close to touches you. I can understand best friends, but distant relatives or co-workers? The whole thing is odd and I’ve prepared myself for lots of intrusions into my personal space but I think if people just asked first, I’d feel a lot more comfortable. I doubt I’ll ever say no if someone asks (well, maybe) but at least they asked first.

On another note, the latest round of blood test results are in and so far we have a perfectly healthy baby!

Pregnancy Update

It’s been a pretty quiet week so I’d thought I’d write an update on all of my symptoms. The bloody boogers are gone, I’m sleeping through the night, my appetite is pretty normal, my bacne is still there but not as bad, I have occasional headaches and my hair is fabulous! I’ve heard that pregnant woman have the best hair from all of the hormones but I personally think mine looks so good because my doctor gave me the okay to highlight my hair!  No more dull and boring natural color; I am a beautiful blonde again.  I also discovered some awesome hair product so that is helping too.  I don’t have any heartburn yet and I’ve found a way to still sleep on my stomach (mostly) which makes me happy. I have to bring one leg up to my shoulder which makes my midsection rotate just enough to not put pressure on my belly. It’s sort of complicated but it’s working for the moment. I also don’t really have any constipation problems but then again, my prenatal vitamin has something in it to help with that. (thank god for prescription prenatals!) We have a big week coming up: our appointment to find out the gender is next Wednesday and we leave for a long weekend in Arizona the next night! My husband and I wanted to go on one last trip together before the two of us turns into the three of us. I can’t wait to get out of the dreary winter weather and play some golf in 80 degree weather. I have to go buy some spring maternity clothes first, but a lot of my empire waste dresses still work and look good so I won’t have to buy a whole new wardrobe…yet.  Everyone asks me if I have any “feelings for what the sex of the baby is,” and I really don’t. I think it would be nice to have a boy but all of the “old wives tales” point to a girl. The chinese lunar calendar points to a girl and this little quiz pointed to a boy.  Who knows!

My belly is starting to grow some more and I think it’s the biggest at night when I’m laying in bed. The other night I noticed that my belly button has shallowed out. What used to be the deep end is now the kiddy pool. Fitting, huh?  I think this means my belly button will pop out at some point if it’s already lost half of it’s depth and I’m just barely halfway through the pregnancy. I’ve read that I should be feeling the baby move now and I think I have, but I’m not sure. I feel activity down there but can’t say for sure if I’m imagining things or I can really feel baby kicks. Hopefully I will know soon!
